SCRG Director of Economic Development, Jack Tough, recently completed a one-week course of study in economic development and has fulfilled the requirements of the International Economic Development Council for advancement to the Economic Development Institute. The annual Heartland Economic Development Course, offered by Northern Iowa University, took place in Kansas City, Missouri last week with approximately eighty–five economic developers in attendance. The course included developers from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Topics of study included industrial site development, business retention and expansion, workforce development, financing for economic development, marketing your community, improving your web presence, positioning your community, working with industrial and commercial prospects, and enhanced enterprise zones.
